My road to meditation

Sometimes all you have to do is breathe. It seems so simple because we do it all the time, but in reality it can be quite challenging. I never really understood the power of breathing until I began to meditate.

The first time I ever meditated was with my sister. She recently received some tapes and I thought it would be fun to try it out with her. I did a session and it was completely different than what I imagined it to be. I found it very difficult to focus and stay present in the moment because my mind would wonder so easily. Once I began to mediate on a more regular basis it I could immediately see the benefits that the practice had to offer.

After mediating for a little over a month, I can proudly say that this practice has helped me transform my overall mindset. Since I am such an active and moving person, it is so hard for me to find time to just reflect on the world going on around me. Meditation has taught me the importance of being present and how awareness is a key competent to connecting with others. Life is full of surprises and learning how to handle unexpected events is tough. However, once meditation entered my life my reactions became much better. I once heard a quote, "life is 1% of what actually happens and 99% of how you respond". If you just learn to relax and not sweat the small stuff I can promise you will begin to experience a happier and more fulfilled life.

Another thing I have learned is the importance of being grateful. We are all so lucky for what we have. We have been given the gift of life and it is our job to live up to our individual potential. I am a true believer in the motto "you can do anything you set your mind to". Once you have the right attitude so many doors begin to open up for you. The human mind and body is capable of so much and mediation has allowed me to look into a life with so many possibilities :)))
